Is Vonage better than a local phone company?

I currently use Qwest for local and long distance but I'm sick of them charging me an arm and a leg every month.

Has anyone used Vonage and if so is it worth the change from local phone services?

A friend of mine uses Vonage, and the only problem is the sound quality...it always sounds like the connection is bad. That never happened with her other providers (Bellsouth, which then became AT&T).

But the price IS nice, so...I guess it's a trade-off.
