Hello Patti,

Welcome to the SingleMomFinancialHelp Forum, we are glad that you are here.

If you are not receiving child support from the father, The Department Of Health and Human Services has an Office of Child Support Enforcement that can assist you with getting a child support order, and even direct deposit from his employer into your bank account. Their contact information is available through this site: www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/cse/extinf.html, then click on the state where you live.

You may consider going to a temp agency for job placement. Many companies hire through temp agencies, so many of the jobs are temp to hire, rather than time limited temporary jobs.

I hope that this information will be helpful for you.

    Good luck!

    ~Sally~

having same problem as patti. Filed for child support but it can take 6 months to a year to get. Put job app in at a temp agency. I have been a stay home mom for 8 years and my job skills are way behind. I wanted to try to get my vehicle wraped for a company and have them pay me for advertiment but can not find any info on this. This will atleast help me make my van payment

    Hello Jacqueline,

Unfortunately, everything takes some time, that is just the way of life.

I am not real familiar with the idea of wrapping your vehicle with advertisments, although I have seen a few. I did find a few websites that have information on this, but I can't really share any personal experiences, as I have never done this. The site www.paidtodriveautowrap.com explains a lot of the requirements for being able to do this. One stipulation that you may not be aware of is that the company will likely install a GPS unit in you car (that you have to keep on all of the time) to monitor how much you are driving. You are typically expected to drive at least 800-1,000 miles per month. Also there are apparently a lot of scams associated with the wrapped vehicle industry, so please visit this site before you get too involved: www.paidtodriveautowrap.com Always remember that you should not have to pay anything to have your car wrapped.

While you are driving around with your money-making car, you may also consider beefing up some of you skills with online classes, or attending a local community college. The main page of www.singlemomfinancialhelp.com/news/financial-aid-for-single-mothers.shtml has some advice on how to get financial aid for going back to school.

Lastly, it would not hurt to take your resume to several different temp agencies around your area. Many temp agencies hire in specific fields, for example Adecco frequently hires for Science and Technology-based jobs. Other temp agencies may be hiring in areas that match up more closely with your job skills than the first agency that you went to.

I hope that this information will be helpful for you.

    Good luck,

    ~Sally~

Good for you, Jacqueline! Keep thinking positively!

On the SingleMomFinancialHelp page there is a green square on the left hand side that says "Educational Financial Help". This offers a lot of information on getting financial assistance in the form of grants and scholarships for going back to school. Obviously, you need to think about the type of career that you would like to have, and tailor your education to your career goals. If you want to be an Audiologist (one who tests hearing), you will likely need a master's degree in audiology, at least.

Nursing is a field that is highly in demand and there are training programs that can get you in the field in as little as 2 years.

Best of luck, and please update us on your situation from time to time.

    ~Sally~

Hello. You can easily find information related to grants for single moms in this website. You can also some in .gov websites. Or maybe you can call up the department of human services and know what kind of financial assistance you can get approved for. Free info is just a phone call or a click away.
