The best place to look for study abroad aid is through the school you are attending. There are many opportunities to study abroad, and it just depends on what is a good fit for you. Traveling with children is never easy, and because attending school as a single mom is a challenge in itself, attending classes in a foreign country with your kids in tow can be even more of a challenge. While study abroad is a great chance to expand your horizons and open yourself to new learning possibilities, it's important to consider how your children will react to a trip like that. Mine would be terrified if I went and they stayed behind with their grandparents, and on the other hand, they wouldn't want to come along to a strange place, away from school and their friends. It's a big decision. I hope whatever you decide works out to be what's best for you and your kids.

I agree with you Jebri. It is a scary thing for children to change schools within the city they live in let alone move half way around the world to attend a different school in a different culture. However, if a person is so adamant about studying abroad here are a few things that I found out about it. First you have to be approved for your student loans here in the states, then you have to check with the school that you plan to attend to see if they have a study abroad office. There may be special requirements or limitations on overseas educations. Each state and lending institution has different policies. Also the study abroad office should be able to tell you who to contact. The government also gives grants for study abroad but these are generally given to graduate students. You could check into private organizations that are specific to your area of study, particularly ethnic organizations. The Rotary Club sometimes sponsors students that want to work on their civic studies with a scholarship they call Ambassadorial Scholarship.
