what to do about MRS Associates' (collection agency) repeated harassment?
Awhile back ago, I was contacted by MRS Associates regarding a debt. They ridiculed me, swore at me, and threatened to put the debt on my parents or my boyfriends credit report and make them responsible for the debt. I knew they really couldnt do it so I hung up and sent an email for them not to contact me.Ok, a few months later, I get another call from them. They accussed me of lying and having money but refusing to pay. I told them never to contact me again and sent them a certified letter (with a return receipt) via USPS to stop contacting me. They have received the letter (the USPS return receipt confirms it) yet they still keep calling me! They dont leave messages and they call from different numbers. I know its them because I entered the different numbers online and the numbers all lead back to them.I am a California resident. I already wrote the Attorney General about them. What do I do now? I feel like changing my number..but should I let them keep calling so if I sue them the penalty against them will be higher?"http://www.budhibbs.com/collectorpages/mrs_associates_inc.htm"The debt they are refering to is about 2 years old. They claim they have sent me letters in the mail regarding the debt. No they have not. I provided the link above to show you that they are notorious for harassment and using illegal tactics.http://www.budhibbs.com/collectorpages/mrs_associates_inc.htmmight I add, MRS told me to stop paying my federal student loan and pay them because "defaulting on your student loan isnt a big deal."

If your credit problems have progressed to the point where your creditors have turned your case over to collection agencies, it is important to know your legal rights. Collection agencies are not allowed to do the following: call your office, call your home before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m., address you in an abusive manner, or •call family or friends in an attempt to collect your debt.Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), debt collectors cannot harass you. If any of the above is happening to you, tell the collection agency to stop harassing you. If it continues, ask for its name and address and report it to the Better Business Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission or your state's attorney general's office. These numbers can be found in your telephone book or by calling directory assistance. You need to refer to this website for tons of free information and advice regarding credit issues:http://www.creditinfocenter.com/rebuild/collectionagencies.shtmlgood luck!

Since they do not leave a call back number, just go out a buy a whistle for $5. The next time they call, just say hold on and then blow the whistle and hang up.

Hi,You have the USPS receipt now do you have phone records that show they called you after that? If you don't have then handy call phone company and get that information showing all the calls. After that letter received you can get up to 1k per call for damages. Is this debt a credit card if it is CA has a 2 year sol on that.MRS has been sued plenty of times for behavior like this, you should have a attorney represent you during this process. Google FDPCA attorneys and find ones that practices in CA. Guess what MRS is on that list as they are being sued by a consumer.http://mnd.uscourts.gov/ncs/caselist.htmlHaugen v. MRS associates.I am sure there are more in other states, but I do see them frequently on MNhere is a link for you to look up! This is the cases filed in federal court in MN
