Need help/advice

Hello,
I am a 25 year old single mother of a 4 year old girl and I wanted to know if there are any programs out there for someone like me. I work for the City so before taxes I make a decent amount of money BUT after taxes and deductions its a totally different story!

I recently had to opt out of my pension and 401K just to make ends meet. Now the state taxes went up and everything in illinois is going up but I dont make more money to keep up with this crazy economy. Since I work for the city i have way more deductions than a regular non city employee would make. Even gas prices here are the highest in the country (Chicago).

I live on my own. I pay my own rent, car note, gas, light, phone bills etc. I live paycheck to paycheck and its really hard. After all the bills are paid then i still have to pay the weekly expenses like gas, babysitting and groceries and sometimes i have to choose one over the other, like one week i have to pay the sitter and dont have enough so I cant buy food for the house.

I also do not/have not recieved one penny of child support since my daughter was born. I do have him on child support but he does not work so they really wont do anything until he does so.

Ive tried doing the SNAP/LINK and I do not qualify because they ask you what you make pretax. I pretty much do not qualify for anything but they do not consider that im on one income with no extra money coming in from anywhere else. Is there something i can do for some help!??

Join Groupon www.groupon.com to save money. Have your friends or family baby sit when ever possible. As soon as your daughter is old enough for publish school things should be easier.

Have you considered having a roommate? Perhaps you can find another single mother that is in the same situation as you, the two of you can watch each others child so you both can work. Besides that would mean that the children would not have to go out of the home for day care. It might mean that one of you would have to change jobs so that your schedules would work together but remember that it would only be for a few years and then you could go back to the type of job you were in before, like working for the city. By sharing living expenses both would benefit and perhaps be able to save a few dollars.
