Default Not sure where to turn

I have 2 daughters and am currently on disability. I was recently scammed out of every dime I had while trying to get a loan for people with bad credit (not a payday loan). I was trying to get the loan to purchase a stove (which didn't come with the home we are renting and just recently moved in to), to pay off some debt and to give my children a wonderful Christmas. When I say they scammed me out of every dime, I mean that literally, I have 68 pennies to my name. I have nothing for my children for Christmas now, not even gas to go to charities. Does anyone know of loans available to people with bad credit, or any organizations that help people in times of need? I would have no problem making my payments on a loan and would love to have good payments posted on my credit. I am desperate for any type of help. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thank you in advance and I hope all the women of this group have a wonderful holiday with their children.

    Hello Jen,

I am sorry that you are having a tough time.

There are several ways to make sure that your girls get at least one present for Christmas. First, contact your local Health and Human Services Department and explain your situation. You will need to provide proof of income and proof of Social Security number (with Social Security cards). Second, speak with the minister at your local church, or just a local church, and explain your situation. Some churches can lead you to local food pantries, or even help you get assistance for your children for Christmas. Third, research your local phone book and directories for community action agencies. These agencies can help to get your children on Christmas Angel Trees, or assist you in getting gift vouchers to help you pay for Christmas gifts.

Also, it may be easier for you to afford a refurbished stove for your new rental. Often, these are nearly as nice as brand new stoves, but at a fraction of the cost. Or, potentially, you could speak with your landlord about paying an extra $50.00 (or what ever you can afford) per month if he or she puts in a new stove.

Good luck, Jen, and Happy Holidays.

    Jen,

I hope by now you have had a chance to talk to DHS, churches, or anyone who can help your family for Christmas. I'm so sorry to hear about the situation you're in.

One year when I was completely broke, I went to the thrift store to get presents for my children. It wasn't much, but it was enough to give them something under the tree, and they were young enough that they didn't notice the gifts were used. That was a very tough year...but it does get better. It always gets better, given enough time.

Perhaps you could borrow money from a friend and go to a thrift store this year? Sometimes the stores will offer a stipend for shopping if you need certain requirements...the Salvation Army store used to do that, but I'm not sure if they do it any longer. A few dollars at a thrift store can go a long way.

Please let us know how you are doing?

I hope you and your children have a beautiful holiday.
