Need help with Insulin pump costs
Hello everyone,
New to this forum and was wondering if anyone knows of an organization that helps with durable medical equipment costs for children.
My 9 year old daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 2 years ago and her doctor now wants to put her on a pump. My insurance covers most of the cost but not all.
The pump will greatly improve my daughters quality of life and by helping us in regulating her blood sugar, will most definately grant her a longer healthier life.
My cost for the pump is $850. I am still waiting for the insurance company to determine if the supplies will be covered as a disposable or a durable expense. If it is the latter this will be an additional ongoing expense for which I am unsure if I can manage on my own.
I want to give my daughter every opportunity and make her life as uncomplicated as possible. She did not ask for this disease yet she rarely complains.
Diabetes has taught her many things, as many things as it has stolen from her I imagine.
My daughter Nina is an advanced placement student, active in chorus, drama and music, I couldn't be more proud, she teaches me how to be strong each and every day.
Please let me know if you can assist with finding an organization that could possibly help with these current and ongoing costs.
Thank you so much for your help.
Happy Holidays.

I did a couple of quick searches, and it appears that there are some programs designed specifically to help with the costs associated with Insulin Pumps and equipment for children under 21.
The first one that I found was Islets of Hope:
http://www.isletsofhope.com/diabetes/assistance-programs/free-insulin-pump-supplies-1.html
(this URL will have to be copied and pasted in to the browser).
Where to apply for assistance:
Animas Corporation - Insulin pumps and supplies through the Diabetes Trust Fund (for children 21 and under with current health care coverage). 1-877-YES-PUMP (937-7867), ask to speak to Anne Barton at extension 1149.
There were several phone numbers listed on their site, so even if you don't find what you are specifically looking for on their website, maybe someone can point you in the right direction if you call them.
Good luck!
Sally
