I know exactly how you feel!! I haven't worked in 13 years. I stayed home and took care of our 3 children, house, and everything else. He was arrested 1 year ago and I have been on my own ever since then. I can not get child support becasue he is in jail. I did get a job driving a school bus and enrolled in college as of August 30. I was accepted for food stamps, but was declined for TANF because I have a job. That is crazy! I am in Alabama and we have something called Community Action. They will pay your power bill if they have funds. Also, check with the local churches. I have been once and they really made me feel like trash, but sometimes you have to suck it up for the welfare of your children. When my husband went to jail, of course I lost most everything except I was lucky enough that the mortgage company has worked with me to keep my house. They repo-ed my Lincoln Navigator, I wasn't able to afford a $700 car payment anyway. My dad bought me a decent used car and just last week the transmission went out on it to the tune of $2800. I have no way to pay it and I have not found anyone to help. I can be tough, but I thank God eveyday for my 3 beautiful babies. Good Luck!

girl, that is how it works. I have a little girl that is 6 years old. I work a full time job and only get help from her father when he decides to send it. I carry insurance on her through my employer as a primary because it is offered to me. I applied for medicaid and food stamps. I was automatically denied for the food stamps because I make too much. The medicaid for my daughter I was approved for, however, I just received a letter in the mail this past weekend telling me that it had been cancelled because she has another form of insurance. The funny part is, that when I went through the application process, I told them up front that I had insurance for her, however I wanted to see if she could get the medicaid as a secondary that way i do not have to worry about any copays on her meds or her specialist visits. They gave it to her and then just cancelled it. My car is acting up and can't get any help for that either. Its like when you are a single mom, even if you try you cant seem to get ahead. So right now we are living off of bouncing my checking account. That is the only way I can make ends meet, and it seems to be getting worse. I completely understand what you are talking about and what you are going through.
