Free Cars For Single Moms

Cars for single moms is a very important part of making ends meet. You need to work to pay the bills, and you need a car to get to work, daycare, and other essential places. But finding cars for single mothers can be tough on a limited income.

There’s the car itself, and then there’s car insurance, gas and maintenance. It’s enough to make your head spin. If you’re having trouble purchasing a vehicle, getting a loan, or need reliable help with transportation, we have a few ideas to help you out.

First, consider this: Do you really need a car? If you live in a city, you might not. Public transportation can usually get you everywhere you need to go. You’ll lose the convenience of having your own car, but it’s worth it when you see how much money you’re saving. Purchase a frequent-rider pass for reduced fares.

If you’ve decided that you need your own vehicle, look somewhere other than a dealership to purchase your car. Habitat for Humanity takes donated cars for single mothers and sells them for reduced prices. It’s a great place to find cars for single moms.

You should also check the paper or CraigsList.com to look for used cars. You could also write a post on Craigslist.com explaining your situation and saying that you’re looking for an affordable, reliable automobile. You never know who will read it-maybe someone has a car they were going to sell but would rather it go somewhere it’s really needed, and they might offer their free cars for single moms.

You could also check with car rental companies-they occasionally have rental cars for sale. Just be sure to have a mechanic inspect any used vehicle before you buy it. Some unscrupulous sellers will offer cars for single mothers that quickly break down, so they can get more money from your repair bills.

Don’t forget to check with your local Social Services agency, credit union, or any related non-profits in the area. Many times credit unions will design loan programs that offer single mothers help with transportation.

More often than not, a vehicle means the difference between a single mom receiving government aid or not because of her ability to get to work. Agencies know this and many will take extra steps to help you on your quest to find a car.

Use the power of the internet to help you, too. Search for automobile grants and loans for single moms. You might be able to find programs that offer free cars for single mothers if you meet certain need criteria.

There are programs to help low income families get cars. They are far and few between and in most cases you do have to pay something. I am currently trying to get one through a program here in PA…But they are around $2200. Try your local welfare office for auto grant money. Also alot of times welfare will give bus passes. Here is a helpful website; http://www.waystowork.org/. Try local non profit agencies. And also http://www.unitedway.org/ can give you info for organizations in your area. Hope this helps!

I’m a single mother who has been broken down by dealerships, car rentals, lemon cars. I have three children that I have to get to doctors appointments, go to school, buy groceries, wash, and the list goes on. I have tried relatives and they are to busy and judgemental to help. I really need a way out of this; not having a car business. I pray daily and think positive and walk miles in tears. I truely need dependable car for my children and I.

You can try getting a nice used car off of craigslist or go to the dealer and talk to them so they can talk out a nice payment plan. Check out your options so that you can have some help while transporting yourself and your kids.

My name is Jan Cervini, I am a 61 year old single mother and until last May 14 I was making ends meet on SSI due to disability regarding my back. Well on May 14th i fell and broke 2 bones in my ankle. I have since had 3 seperate surgeries on the ankle, the last one was due to a severe staph infection which went all the way to the bone. I am currently hooked up to a wound vac. Having to go to doctor’s appointments every 2 weeks having to depend on friends and relatives to get me there is getting more and more difficult. I can not do anything for myself anymore which has left me in deep depression. After losing everything to Hurricane Katrina, I was finally getting back to somewhat of a normal life and now this. I can not even do my own grocery shopping. Although I don’t do a lot of driving on a daily basis, having a vehicle is a necessity. I don’t care what the vehicle looks like but do need one that is dependable transportation. $688.00 doesn’t go very far monthly, but it does pay the bills. If anyone has a vehicle that they no longer need, it would be greatly appreciated..

Yes, a car (or any other form of transport) is quite necessary. There are some places that donate cars, but you would have to look into that in your area. I would suggest just searching around and keeping your eyes open for a car the owner wouldn’t mind negotiating with.

Have you looked into TANF? They provide temporary assistance for families that need it for a period of time. This might help in your situation. As for a car, there are places that donate cars (or sell them at a minimal price) but that is something you would have to look into in your area.

Hi! Im a single mother of a 13 year old daughter. I’ve worked my whole life then was put on disability in 2009. I have bad credit and had to buy a car so I went to a small car lot to buy a car. They said they would finance me and charged me dearly for the car I own now. Right now it’s at their shop getting fixed again! Everytime I turn around something needs to be fixed!!! I bought a 2002 dodge stratus rt for 6,200.00 dollars and it had 139960 miles on it! Now after all the repairs and refinanceing they have done for me in the end I’ll be paying around 13 thousand for this used car!!! The payments a killing me and I just need a car to drive my daughter and myself to our doctor appts. and to the food pantrys to get food. I just want to get out from under this car!! I don’t deserve to have to pay for this car at that price!! Please help if you can!! Thank you! Brenda

Yes, I agree, Transportatiom is very important in your situation. You should try to look for some cars that are on sale in an okay condition and see if you can negotiate a price with the owner. For example, try used car sales and see if anything works out.

Hello, my name is Katrina and I am a single mother with three beautiful daughters. I have been single now for 8 years. When my ex husband left, financially my family was okay. However six months later I received a letter in the mail from the bank stating that my house was being foreclosed. When I brought this up to my ex he proceeded to tell me that he had not payed the mortgage for the last six months. Before my house was foreclosed I tried to save it but I couldn’t. A friend of mine helped me put the house up for sale. The day before the house was being foreclosed it sold. My children and I have moved eight times in the past eight years. We were homeless once and a little over two years ago just lost our apartment. My youngest daughter and I went into a homeless shelter and lived there for a year. My two oldest are now old enough to live on their own. I am now currently in my own apartment and enjoying every minuet of it. My only problem is I don’t have a car. In order for me to be able to work to be able to support my daughter and I, I need a car and I need one bad. I have been in my own place for a year and have not had a car at all. I’ve never had such a difficult time in life and if there has ever been a time that I’ve needed help it is now. So I am turning to all of you for some help. If any of you can refer me to someone that could be of assistance to me that would be great, Thank you all so much for reading my story and I appreciate you letting me read your stories. Being a single mother is hard and to know that I am not the only one adds a little comfort to my heart, knowing that I can relate to each and every one of you. Knowing that we have all had it hard but we are strong women. Thank you.
