I think you could probably benefit from checking out our legal section articles. They detail how to get free or low-cost legal help, which could help to fight your husband for the money you’re due.

If you go to this page, there is a whole list of North Carolina programs that could potentially be of use to you. Programs like HUD, WIC, and TANF would be extremely helpful in your situation. I would also check with credit unions and non-profits in your area – many times they have free or low cost cars available.

temporary assistance for needy families, otherwise know as TANF. you can apply online or at your local DSHS office.

Depending on how much time you have before you need to leave, I would get your name on a government housing program list. Other than that, I would check into churches, non-profits, etc in your area.

Hi,

I became a single mother recently, i separated from my baby girl father. I will be moving to georgia with my brother (temporarily till I find a job), because I am having a hard time affording everything and finding a job. I f I apply for help, do they take in consideration my brothers income?

Barbara,

I don’t believe that they will take that in consideration. However, when you go and apply for help, follow the military’s rule of thumb “don’t ask don’t tell”. Check out the link that I have provided for you.

I am a single mother of two boys. I live with my parents but I can’t take living with my parents any more. My mother and I are always arguing and I am tired of my kids being around this situation. I am not working but I am consistingly looking for a job but I have not had any luck in finding a job. The Government housing waiting list are closed. Where can I find help in getting out of my parents house and getting a place of my own for my kids and I?

I am a 39 single mother of an adoptive son who is 5. I am a nurse and have struggled but have done well to take care of us without any assistance. Recently, I retained custody of his 2 biological sisters, who are both in diapers still. Their mother is back on crack and facing serious prison time. So I am possibly looking at long term care of these girls. They do have medicaid and WIC, but I am going to need assistance with daycare. Because of my (rich) income, I was turned away from foodstamps and TANEF. Despite what the welfare office thinks, I’m about to be in serious financial bind. I am by no means well-to-do. Any suggestions will be welcomed!

Susan,

Let me start off by saying good for you for adopting a child and taking in his sisters. There are many people out there would never consider such an act of kindness. Here is a link that I feel will be helpful to you.

http://www.singlemomcareerhelp.com/affordable-daycare-by-state/

It will link you to affordable daycare options in your State. You can also check into getting help from your local churches and food banks. It would only be temporary help, but something is better than nothing. I truly hope everything works out for you. Thank you again for keeping that family together. Good luck to you.
