When asking for assistance they tend to look at your income, you living status, and the people you live with and you capability/incapability of doing certain things. Asking for assistance does not necessarily have any any negative effects. But, some grants much like loans ask that you pay them pay although some do not. Many things vary so it is something you have to look more into depending on you specific need/assistance needed. Hope this helps!
