You can look into contacting HIP which, is housing initiative program. Also, you can receive financial aid for being a single mother.

I am 25 and a single mother of two. I moved back in with my parents about a year ago. I do work but only get about 20 to 25 hours a week. I have been wanting to go to Schiller but cannot bear not working. To top that off my father is making it clear that he wants us out a I have now where else to go. I have filed section 8 app about 3 yeast ago and heard nothing yet. I just don't know what to do. I have nowhere to go.

Susanne,
Sad to say, I come across many emails from women that are in the same situation as you. I don’t know what is going on with the Department of Human Services that they would tell you that “they are not taking apps”. You should keep trying. Talk to someone else. Tell them you want to talk to a supervisor. There is a program called TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families). I don’t know if you have heard of this assistance program before. You may also want to check out Hud.gov to see that is offered to you. As for your landlord, you need to pressure him into fixing your floor, which is a safety hazard. The HUD program may be able to help you with dealing with your landlord to get it fixed. Wish you the best.

I am a single mom with no child support. I have tried to apply for housing assistance, section 8, government housing.......to no avail. Everyone tells me that they are not taking apps. Then to get into income based housing there is a 6-9 month or more waiting period. My youngest is 3 and my 16 year old is pregnant - where are we suppose to live until then. I am currently renting a home with floors that are very dangerous and the air conditioners barely make it livable. This does not make sense to me that there is no help for a working parent who is really trying to survive???????

Take a look at these resources on special needs help programs. It gives an extensive list of programs who may be able to help you out, like the National Dissemination Center or the Child Care Law Center.
