I am trying here work a full time job my soon to be ex husband I guess, we have always worked opposite shift so one of us was taking care of our babies we have suffered through the rough economy of my husbands company being downsized and he took a job making have the income and we got behind on some bills, He now of course found a better paying job I thought things where going to be better and they where starting to get there, and now within the past 2 months he wants a divorce has stopped helping me pay certain bills unfortunately no savings account anymore that had to be used while he was at the other job... I don't qualify for any temp assistance, to due this on my own. When I had my girls I never thought I would be getting divorced. I really need to find an attorney and child care and can't afford either, when he leave I will have added bills because I will have to pick up the house hold bills he has been paying up until this point.

People fail to realize life is all about decision. And welfare is suppose to be used as a stepping stone. Its designed to help you become independent within year. Just stay positive ladies and don't give up on hope. Remember jobs post on jobs indeed.com

I agree with you 100% and have seen people who have kids to stay on welfare which is SAD! Way to go for not needing state aid and rocking out being a single mother I am trying but it is hard and sometimes feels like the rain will never go away.

I've been a single-parent since my son was 3 years old - he is now grown and has a child of his own. He was diagnosed with severe ADHD when he was 7 years old - medication and psychiatrists were an added expense. I didn't receive child support and had to support both of us - things were very tough financially in our household especially when my job had been eliminated due to company cut-backs, medical issues with my son, my son playing three (3) different sports, and tutoring so that he could graduate H.S.

I NEVER relied on or expected anyone to help me, not even my family, because it was my choice to be a single-parent and to have a child (never had any assistance from State, Family Members, Friends, or any other resource, even when the company I worked for went bankrupt) - I worked a full-time job, a part-time job and in addition, I had attended college part-time and graduated with an Associates Degree (you do what you have to do to survive and to provide a good home for your child without relying on others).

I can completely understand people getting assistance when circumstances such as a major illness or major trauma occurs unexpectedly, but people totally abuse the system to where others who honestly need assistance (whether it be temporary or permanent) cannot obtain help when needed. Assistance should ONLY be a temporary solution - not a permanent one (depending on the individual's circumstances). There are plenty of jobs hiring - whether it be at a fast-food chain, retail store, or with a temporary job placement service - don't think you are too good to work at any of those places because those individuals work just as hard as the average individual to provide a service to people - I've been there and have a great respect for those individuals.

Commonsense is to NOT keep having children when you are struggling to keep afloat with one child or two at the most (go to Plan Parenthood for birth control) - why should I pay for others to have more than one or two children when I was smart enough to not get pregnant with another mouth to feed to where it would be more of a struggle to keep afloat?! My opinion is that the State should ONLY pay for 2 children per household - and should ONLY pay for more than 2 children depending on the individual's circumstances. It is sad and disgusting to see that people who are provided with food stamps (which myself and many others are working to help provide those to them) bring home better food than myself (steaks, etc.) - you need live within your means and eat within your budgeted amount that the State provides you and your family. If you are already living within your means (not a champagne taste on a beer budget), check out the food pantry's here in Ohio, as they provide food for the less fortunate.

For those who think that it won't get any better - hate to tell you this, every day is a new day and if you strive to make your life better, it definitely will happen!

Maybe some of them had husbands who died. Maybe they had good jobs but their kids got sick! Maybe your husband will die tomorrow and your child will be stricken with cancer! Then what? Will you be so proud and sure of yourself then? Some people are the victim of extreme difficulties and they can't help it. Not every case, but SOME. I've been a hard worker my whole life and my child got sick. I have no parents, noone to help me. And to top it all off I broke my leg in two places. I never imagined I would be in this spot. Unless you've walked a mile in someones shoe's don't judge them. Get some class, please. It's people like you who make this world what it is. You don't complain when a goverment official uses tax money to get a thousand dollar haircut, but it bothers you when a mom needs help feeding her child because of circumstance! Educate yourself!

Its no wander to me why people abuse the system. If your getting food assistance and make $100.00 they take half of what you were getting if you make an extra dollar.
I am a grandmother of two beautiful little boys age 3 and 5.My daughter works and goes to school. She gets 300 dollars a month for food from our government which is great !!! I am not complaining but every time she makes an extra dollar they take 20 more from her.She cannot make her bills and I am always having to help her.I am not complaining mind you but I can barley stay afloat working 40 hours a week $18.00 an hour... with gas over 3.00 a gallon and a electric bill of 400.00 per month in the winter ---and I live in a mobile home.Food prices are outrageous and there is no extra money laying around when your are a blue collar worker.
She is trying to better herself with education and a better job in order to give her boys what they need and deserve.
But the fact of the matter is if your born poor you usually die poor and it goes on and on.Guess the same goes for the rich.If your born with a silver spoon in your mouth you can bet you are eating pretty good while the rest of us are hungry.Enjoy your steak tonight hope it taste really good and juicy.Don't bother to think about those less fortunate than you are because they will survive because the poor are strong ,they have faith and they believe in the good lord he will take care of them.

Here are some suggestions for single moms with children who have special needs. Hopefully these can help you out a bit, and I would also look to see what else is available specifically in your area.

I would look into getting some different legal advice. We have some great articles on getting it for free or for a much lower price here. I would look at the article detailing things like pro-bono representation or resources at the State Bar.
