Help For Single Moms In Oklahoma
Today’s single moms often struggle because of the economy and many other factors that make raising kids on one income nearly impossible. When single moms struggle to make ends meet, the state of Oklahoma offers some programs that can help fill in the gap.
Childcare – Most single moms find balancing a career and parenting duties to be a challenge. Sometimes the cost alone of childcare for children while the mom works eats up most of the paycheck. Oklahoma offers a subsidized childcare program as part of the Department of Human Services (405-521-3931). Qualification for the program is based on income, and some families pay a small co-pay, but for many single moms this gives them a much needed help as they pursue their career.
Healthcare - The state of Oklahoma offers the Medicaid program for single moms and other needy families to help them afford quality health care for their families. The program is available based on income. Children and pregnant women who meet certain income guidelines may also qualify for SoonerCare, which is offered through the Department of Human Services.
Food and Supplies – The state of Oklahoma understands that sometimes families, especially single parent families, go through temporary periods of difficulty. When these times come, they offer several programs to help families purchase needed food and supplies. The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program offers cash assistance, and the SNAP EBT Card allows single moms to buy healthy food. WIC is another program offered to help supplement a family’s diet with healthy food choices. All of these are offered through the Department of Human Services.
Transportation – If your current situation does not allow you to own a car, consider finding someone you can commute to and from work with. Remember to offer something in return, such as money for gas or babysitting services. Also, if you live in a major city, check into public transportation options, which are usually quite affordable.
Rent Assistance – The Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency has several programs designed to help lower income families afford a safe place to live. The most common rent assistance program is the Section 8 Rental Assistance plan, which pays a portion of the rent cost.
College Grants – Have you ever thought about returning to school? If the financial commitment that would require seems impossible, consider looking into college grants and scholarships. Women and single moms in particular will find many options out there to help them pay for a quality education. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education outline several state-based grant programs, and you can apply for federal options by filing the FAFSA.

Hello,
For being a single mom your daughter can receive financial help and receive housing grants for single mothers.
I am a single mother of a 2 year old and I have another baby due in September. The father and I recently split up because I found out he was sleeping around. We are currently staying on my sisters couch. I am currently unemployed and constantly doing what I can to find a job. A few weeks back I was hit by a uhaul trailer totalling my only source of transportation. The other party had no insurance, so my car most likely won’t be replaced. I have literally hit rock bottom and have nothing. I can only stay at my sisters as a temporary solution to my problem. I have no idea where to turn or who can help as I have never been in this situation before. Its hard to answer my son when he asks “wheres my bed momma?” Please if you have any ideas let me know.
Hello,
For starters, you can contact TANF who provide Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.
You can look into receiving state assistance and receive
Grants for Single Moms.
Good luck!
