Help For Single Moms In West Virginia

Raising children on one income in this economy may seem impossible. When West Virginia single moms cannot find a way to make ends meet, the state has a few aid programs that can help.

Childcare – West Virginia offers a childcare subsidy through the Child Care Program. This is offered to families who qualify based on income, have children under the age of 13, and need help paying for childcare so they can work or attend job training. Income level guidelines are based on family size and the Federal Poverty Level.

Health Care – For single moms who cannot get insurance at work, West Virginia’s Medicaid program may be able to help. The program is designed for low-income families to provide them with access to quality healthcare. West Virginia also has the Children’s Health Insurance Program, which focuses on providing health care coverage to children.

Food and Supplies – Sometimes single moms struggle with the basics, such as putting healthy food on the table. When this happens, several state aid programs can help. The Bureau for Children and Families offers the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which gives families help with paying for healthy food items. Single moms who are looking for help so they can better their family’s economic situation may benefit from WV Works, the state’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. This offers a cash benefit to needy families as they try to get back on their feet and become self-sufficient. The state’s WIC program offers nutrition supplementation to lower-income families with children under the age of five.

Transportation
– Single moms who do not have a car need to learn to use the state’s many public transportation options for reliable, affordable transportation. In addition, anyone who is on Medicaid or receives the Children with Special Health Care Needs benefit can get transportation help when driving to and from medical services (http://www.wvdhhr.org/).

Rent Assistance – Through HUD and various county housing assistance offices, West Virginia’s single moms can get help in paying their rent. Public housing, subsidized apartments, and housing choice vouchers are all options to consider. These programs are available to income-eligible families.

College Grants – The College Foundation of West Virginia offers information about getting financial aid to pay for your tuition if you should wish to return to school. The first step is usually filing the FAFSA, which is the application for federal aid. Also be sure to check for school scholarships that might help.

Cornie,
You can receive Housing Grants for Single Mothers
or you can contact HIP which is the Housing Initiative Program that can help you find a place to sleep.
As, for food, you can receive food stamps from the origination or you can contact TANF who provide Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.
Hope this info helps.
